The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) is offering full-time bursaries for the academic year 2025. This initiative aims to support eligible South African scholars from disadvantaged backgrounds who are pursuing studies in mining or energy-related fields.

Bursaries are available for students studying towards qualifications in the following disciplines:
- Bachelor of Science (Physics and Chemistry)
- Chemical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current)
- Electro-Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineering
- Environmental Health and Management
- Geology
- Industrial Engineering
- Information and Communication Technology
- Materials Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering (Extractive)
- Mining Engineering
- Mining Survey
- Nuclear Engineering
- Rock Engineering
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the bursary, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Have registered at a tertiary institution or be currently completing Grade 12.
- Demonstrate financial need.
- Be 18 years or older.
- Have a strong academic history.
- Be entering their first year of academic study.
- Show commitment to developing their community.

- Old or altered bursary application forms will lead to automatic disqualification.
- Applicants not contacted by 31 January 2025 should consider their application unsuccessful.
- High school applicants are encouraged to send final matric results and acceptance letters within the first week of their release.
