The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) invites applications for bursaries for the 2025 academic year. These bursaries are aimed at tertiary students pursuing studies in heritage-related programs at accredited institutions.

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the DSAC bursary, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Not older than 40 years.
- Demonstrate outstanding or satisfactory academic performance.
- Be enrolled in a heritage-related field of study.
- Not be employed full-time by government, state agencies, or the private sector with a salary exceeding R130,000.
- Students who are beneficiaries of other bursaries are not eligible to apply.
Value of the Bursary
The maximum value of the bursary is R110,000 per student, covering:
- Study Fees: Total amount covered.
- Books: Total amount covered.
- Electronic Devices: Up to R10,000 (paid according to receipts/invoices based on three quotations).
- Accommodation: Maximum of R50,000 (where applicable).
- Meals: Maximum of R18,500 (where applicable).
- Transportation: Maximum of R10,000 (where applicable).
Note: Funds are payable directly to the higher institution of learning.
Fields of Study
Bursaries are available for studies in:
- Anthropology (preferably postgraduates specializing in Forensics)
- Archaeology (preferably postgraduates specializing in Bioarchaeology)
- Geography and Geomatic Sciences (preferably postgraduates specializing in Cartography and GIS)
- Archives and Records Management
- Library and Information Sciences
- Conservation of the Built Environment (including preventive conservation)
- Heritage and Museum Studies
- Palaeontology
- Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) or courses contributing to the preservation and promotion of South African Living Heritage
- History
- Digitization of heritage resources
