The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is offering a bursary programme for the 2025 academic year, aimed at South African students interested in advancing their studies in biological invasions.

Bursary Coverage:
- Honours: 1 bursary valued at R60,000 plus fees
- Masters: 3 bursaries valued at R115,000 plus fees
- Doctoral: 4 bursaries valued at R161,000 plus fees
The bursary may also cover registration costs for part-time studies or other project-related expenses aligned with SANBI’s mandate. Funds are paid directly to students, while academic fees are paid to their host institutions.
Note: Masters and Doctoral applicants who are likely to exceed their study period may be considered for a 1-year project development internship, after which they can reapply for the bursary.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Must be registered for a postgraduate degree (Honours, Masters, or Doctoral) in one of SANBI’s approved research areas.
- Must be studying at a recognised South African university.
- Must be enthusiastic and motivated to conduct research that enhances the understanding and management of biological invasions.
