The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) is offering full-time master’s and doctoral scholarships for eligible postgraduate students in all disciplines for the 2025 academic year.
This funding aims to support students pursuing research and studies in various fields, including social and human sciences, economic and management sciences, natural and applied sciences, engineering, and technology.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the TUT Postgraduate Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Available only for full-time students.
- Open to South African citizens and international students.
- International students must have obtained at least 70% in their previous qualifications.
- South African students must have obtained at least 65% in their previous studies. (In exceptional cases, students with 60%-64% may still be considered.)
- First-year funded students are encouraged to apply for external scholarships for their second and third year of studies.
- Applicants must comply with faculty-specific criteria where applicable.
- The scholarship is not applicable for a second master’s or doctoral degree.
- It is not available for students in their third year of a master’s degree or fourth year of a doctoral degree.
- Students receiving government scholarships (e.g., MRC, Mandela-Rhodes, TUT-CSIR) only qualify for a top-up as per their external funder’s agreement.
- International students must provide evidence of financial assistance for their studies.
- Faculties and departments may provide top-up funding for students who receive non-governmental scholarships, but the total amount must not exceed R200,000 per year.
Scholarship Value
- Master’s Degree: R80,000 per annum (tuition fees included)
- Doctoral Degree: R100,000 per annum (tuition fees excluded)

For students who are employed but earning less than R400,000 per year, the following sliding scale applies:
