Purpose
The Officer: Legal Administration will process legal documentation related to claims settlement and coordinate legal procedures to facilitate early dispute resolution outside of court proceedings.
Key Responsibilities
- Legal Administration:
- Transcribe and proofread legal documents for settlement discussions.
- Maintain and update the case file database.
- Retrieve legal information as required.
- Assist in arbitration processes for claims disputes.
- Brief experts to assist with claims administration.
- Organize hearing sessions to gather evidence for claims.
- Ensure confidentiality and timely delivery of legal documents.
- Follow up on outstanding legal matters.
- File and maintain settlement agreements.
- Block Settlements:
- Arrange meetings for block settlements.
- Manage court documentation and filing processes.
- Monitor and diarize court proceedings.
- Provide clarity on claim assessments and determinations.
- Reporting & Stakeholder Management:
- Prepare and submit legal reports.
- Provide progress updates to management.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Address inquiries regarding legal processes.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Legal Administration environment.
Skills & Competencies
- Legal Knowledge: Dispute resolution, mediation, third-party compensation, civil procedures (Magistrate, Regional, High Courts).
- Regulatory Understanding: Personal Injury Laws, South African Civil Law.
- Technical Skills: Legal research, document drafting, case management.
- Soft Skills: Planning, organizing, ethical decision-making, client service orientation.
