Transnet is currently seeking an Occupational Health Sister to provide onsite healthcare services to employees of the Transnet National Ports Authority and other port users.
This role aims to ensure employee wellness, reduce absenteeism, and improve productivity while complying with occupational health legislation.

Position Outputs
As an Occupational Health Sister, your duties will include:
- Employee Consultations: Consulting employees and recording findings to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
- Chronic Treatment Management: Tracing chronic treatment defaulters to ensure compliance with treatment.
- Health Education and Counseling: Empowering individuals through health education and counseling sessions.
- Drug Register Management: Checking and countersigning drug registers with a registered nurse.
- Emergency Response: Attending to emergencies to prevent complications.
- First Aid Supplies: Replenishing first aid boxes at depots.
- Data Analysis: Compiling and analyzing data for meaningful reports.
- Medical Assistance: Assisting doctors with minor procedures.
- Medical Examinations: Conducting medical examinations to ensure suitable job placement.
- Client Management: Sorting clients according to needs for the doctor.
- Equipment Management: Checking medical equipment for optimal utilization.
- Record Keeping: Filing and safekeeping medical files to ensure confidentiality.
- Supply Management: Assisting in ordering clinic supplies and checking stock shortages.
- Rapport Building: Establishing rapport with employees while maintaining confidentiality.
- System Updates: Updating information on the computer system as necessary.
- Interdepartmental Collaboration: Working with various departments (EAP, HR, Management) to meet employee needs.
- Delegated Tasks: Implementing duties delegated by the Senior Sister.
Qualifications and Experience
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: Grade 12 plus a Diploma in Nursing or a 4-year B CUR Degree in Nursing or Occupational Nursing.
- Licenses and Certificates: Dispensing License, Certificate in Audiometry, and Spirometry.
- Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license – Code 8.
- Computer Literacy: Proficient in using computers.
- Experience: 3-5 years of relevant experience in Occupational Health Nursing.
