The Gauteng Department of Community Safety is inviting suitably qualified applicants to apply for 70 Permanent Provincial Inspector positions within the Traffic Management Directorate.

Requirements
To qualify for these positions, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification:
- Matric Certificate.
- Traffic Officer’s Diploma.
- Valid driver’s license (Code B/C/C/EB/EC/EC1).
- Experience:
- At least 1 year of practical experience in traffic law enforcement.
- Must be registered as a Traffic Officer (attach proof).
- Criminal Record: No criminal record or pending cases against you.
Knowledge and Skills
Candidates should possess:
- Good record and resource management skills.
- Strong customer relationship management abilities.
- Knowledge and understanding of road traffic and public transport policies and regulations.
- Ability to complete law enforcement documents.
- Knowledge of vehicle inspections and vehicle impoundment processes.
- Familiarity with the Firearms and Ammunition Act 60/100.
- Understanding of departmental guidelines on overload control and escort duties (Transport Handbook).
- Ability to work under pressure with good observation skills.
- Strong driving and negotiation skills.
- Sound interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills in at least two of the provincial official languages.
Duties
The responsibilities of a Provincial Inspector include:
- Enforcing road traffic, public passenger, and transport legislation.
- Implementing planned traffic law enforcement activities.
- Ensuring the free flow of traffic through point duty and traffic control at congested areas.
- Coordinating activities at accident scenes and safeguarding them.
- Identifying hazardous locations and advising management accordingly.
- Participating in traffic policing projects and speed testing operations.
- Performing duties as a Peace Officer, issuing notices, and executing arrests under relevant acts.
- Directing court proceedings and providing evidence as required.
- Escorting abnormal vehicles and loads to ensure safe movement.
- Conducting roadworthy checks on motor vehicles and enforcing general law compliance.
