The University of Johannesburg is seeking 18 Security Officers to ensure the professional protection, safeguarding, safety, and security of assets, property, staff, students, and visitors across various campuses.

Key Responsibilities
Security Services:
- Protect university property through physical patrolling and access control.
- Ensure adherence to security policies by students, staff, and visitors.
- Maintain physical security infrastructure (e.g., gates, street lights) and report defects.
- Patrol premises to prevent intrusion and non-compliance.
- Identify, report, and respond to emergency incidents.
Incident Management:
- Secure crime scenes until supervisors arrive.
- Complete necessary documents for incidents.
- Take accurate verbal and written statements.
- Conduct preliminary investigations into reported offences.
- Provide night-time escort duties for staff.
Access Control:
- Enforce access control policies.
- Check access permits for personnel, students, visitors, and vehicles.
- Conduct searches as per standard operating procedures.
- Lock and secure gates and doors after hours.
Customer Service:
- Provide friendly and effective protection services to all stakeholders.
- Assist during events and demonstrations.
- Present a professional image through appearance and conduct.
Health and Safety:
- Assist in emergency situations like fires or medical incidents.
- Operate security equipment following departmental procedures.
Minimum Requirements
- Qualification: Grade 12 / Matric / NQF4 equivalent.
- Registration: Valid Grade C PSIRA registration.
- Computer Skills: Basic Microsoft packages.
- Clearance: SAPS clearance record.
- License: Valid driver’s license.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years in security services.
- Fitness: Medical, psychological, and physical fitness commensurate with the role.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Higher Qualifications: NQF5 or higher.
- Technical Knowledge: Electronic access control and video management systems.
- Experience: Educational or corporate campus security environment.
- Professional Drivers Permit (PDP).
- Higher PSIRA Grades or Accreditation.
- SAPS Firearm Competency Certificate.
- Firefighting and First Aid Training.
Working Conditions
- Firearm: May be required to carry a firearm based on operational needs.
- Shift Work: 24/7/365 shifts, including straight day/night shifts or alternating shifts.
- Travel: May be required to work between different sites.
- Uniform: Must wear a uniform and work in all weather conditions.
