Minimum Requirements

  • Good interpersonal, planning, and organisational skills. Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel & Outlook). Knowledge of the Mental Health Care Act, Child Care Act, Nursing Act and other relevant legislation. Knowledge and experience of Community Mental Health at PHC level.
  • Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. At least 10 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognisable experience in the specific specialty after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification as mentioned above.
  • Valid Code EB/EC drivers’ licence. Willingness to perform shiftwork, rotation in night duty and over weekends/public holidays. It will be required of the incumbent to rotate within the hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Provide optimal, holistic specialized psychiatric nursing care within set standards and professional/legal framework.
  • Effective utilization of human, financial and physical resources (equipment and consumables).
  • Participation in appropriate personal /professional development activities: Self, students, other categories of staff.
  • Ensure efficient and accurate documentation, statistical data collection capturing and participation in research activities.
  • Assist with the development and the implementation of nursing quality improvement plans, policies and standard operating procedures.
