The City of Johannesburg (CoJ), through its Environmental and Infrastructure Service Department (EISD), is offering internship opportunities for a period not exceeding 18 months.
This programme is aimed at unemployed graduates who are interested in gaining practical experience in climate change adaptation.

Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 / NQF Level 4
- A Degree (NQF Level 7) in:
- Environmental Management
- Environmental Sciences
- Energy Studies
- Or a related field
- Must be a resident of the City of Johannesburg
Primary Function
The intern will assist in the coordination and implementation of climate change initiatives within the City of Johannesburg. This includes developing policies, strategies, and plans to ensure climate change adaptation measures are effectively integrated.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with administration and record-keeping
- Supporting the development of Climate Action Tracking tools
- Compiling reports with findings and recommendations from site visits
Skills & Competencies Required
Leading Competencies:
- Computer literacy (MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Good communication skills
- Project management skills
- Report writing and coordination skills
Core Competencies:
- Basic knowledge of Climate Change Science
- Understanding of the Climate Change Act
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Strong ethics, integrity, and attention to detail
- Commitment to Batho Pele principles (Customer and service delivery management)
