The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts & Culture is recruiting for the Technical Interns – Archives Repository (Digitization) positions as part of their Internship Programme.
This initiative aims to provide work experience opportunities to unemployed graduates, addressing youth unemployment in South Africa.

Job Purpose
The internship program aims to provide unemployed graduates from tertiary institutions with work experience opportunities in the public service sector.
Requirements
- Education: National Senior Certificate plus a National Diploma (NQF level 6 as recognized by SAQA) in Archives & Records Management or other relevant fields. History as a major subject will be an added advantage.
Duties
- Evaluate collections and establish order; group related items according to repository, series, file unit, and item level.
- Classify materials based on predefined categories or series; assign labels for easy identification.
- Develop comprehensive lists of materials noting their locations and descriptions.
- Identify and appropriately handle duplicate items.
- Create detailed descriptions for each item or collection, including relevant information such as dates, creators, and subjects.
- Develop tools to help users locate and understand records.
- Apply standardized metadata for consistency and facilitate searching.
- Prepare documents for scanning and scan documents according to agreed type of image.
- Ensure high image resolution and conduct quality assurance checks for every image developed.
Eligibility Criteria
- Interns must be graduates and unemployed.
- Target youth group aged between 18 and 35.
- Interns should reside within their specific demographic area.
- Candidates cannot participate in the program more than once.
During their contract, interns will receive continuous learning and development opportunities to improve their skills through on-the-job training initiatives.
