How to Properly Fill the Z83 Application Form: A Comprehensive Guide

If you’re applying for a job in the South African public service, chances are you’ll need to download and complete the Z83 form. While many of us are familiar with this form, it’s important to note that the government has recently introduced a new version of the Z83 form, bringing some changes and additions.

To help you navigate through the process with ease, we have prepared a step-by-step guide on how to properly fill out the new Z83 application form.

Step 1: Providing Accurate Information about the Advertised Post (Section A)

Z83 SECTION A

In this section, it is crucial to carefully fill in the details about the advertised post. Pay close attention to the position, department, and reference number provided in the advertisement. Ensuring accuracy will help prevent any misunderstandings during the selection process.

Step 2: Filling in Your Personal Details with Care (Section B)

Z83 SECTION B

This section requires you to provide your personal details, including your full name, surname, ID number (Identity Number), date of birth, and race. Additionally, there are a series of yes or no questions that need to be answered truthfully. It’s important to be honest to avoid any complications should you be shortlisted for an interview.

Step 3: Indicate Your Preferred Communication Method (Section C)

Z83 SECTION C

Here, you will select your preferred means of communication. This is how the Human Resource (HR) department will contact you if you’re fortunate enough to be shortlisted for an interview. We highly recommend providing a cell phone number for easier and more efficient communication.

Step 4: Specify Your Language Skills (Section D)

Z83 SECTION D

South Africa boasts eleven official languages across its nine provinces. In this section, you can list up to five languages in which you are most fluent. Remember to include languages spoken in the area where the job is located. Rate your language fluency, reading, and writing ability as “good,” “fair,” or “poor.”

Step 5: Detail Your Formal Qualifications (Section E)

Z83 SECTION E

In this section, you can list up to four qualifications, starting from the highest to the lowest. If you have multiple qualifications, prioritize the most relevant ones. Additional qualifications can be included in your curriculum vitae (CV). If you’re currently studying, remember to provide details of your ongoing qualification and institution.

Step 6: Include Your Work Experience (Section F)

Z83 SECTION F

When entering your work experience, it’s essential to provide reliable references (as outlined in Section G) who can vouch for your experience. References should be individuals with whom you have worked closely. Avoid adding friends or family members.

Note that references may be contacted to learn more about your work ethic and behavior in a professional setting. Do not include references where the reason for leaving is “dismissal.”

Step 7: Provide Credible References (Section G)

Z83 SECTION G

In this section, provide three references who can attest to your professional conduct and performance. It is crucial to choose individuals who can provide meaningful insights into your work experience. Include their names, occupations, and accurate cell phone numbers.

Step 8: Sign the Declaration

By signing the form, you confirm that all the information provided, including any attachments, is complete and accurate to the best of your knowledge. Any false information may result in disqualification or disciplinary action if appointed.
